Makeup's Scary Secrets

 Thanks D. Sharon Pruitt!

For some women, the idea of not wearing makeup can be really scary, but all the toxins in conventional makeup entering into your bloodstream through the skin is even more horrifying! While drugs are heavily regulated, the FDA doesn't perform tests to determine the safety of cosmetics and toiletries.

Here at Terressentials, we advise our customers to read each product listing as if it were something you were about to put in your mouth. The long list of toxins in makeup can lead one to wonder if there is even a point in checking ingredient lists when they are mainly comprised of synthetic chemicals and toxic metals. According to Rose Williams in her article Makeup's Ugly Secrets, published in the Examiner of Alternative Medicine, "12.2 million adults are exposed to known or probable human carcinogens through daily use of personal care products" and "20% of adults are exposed daily to the top seven carcinogens, commomly found in personal care products."

If you are accustomed to 'putting your face on' everyday, then your appearance without makeup may take some adjustment, but be confident...easier said than done I know. Keep in mind, magazines and celebrities fabricate unrealistic standards of what women believe they should look like. All of these photographs are airbrushed, creating a false sense of perfection that no one will never be able to achieve. Everyone has flaws and insecurities, but it's important to remember you are truly unique and beautiful in your own special way!

Thanks seelensturm!

If you really need makeup for that extra boost of confidence, consider making up your own, this way you will know all the ingredients. Just be sure to use organic products for the ingredients so you can be sure they are free of harmful toxins. There are tons of recipes you can check out online including:

  • Foundation made with arrowroot powder and cinnamon.
  • Blush made with powdered, dried beets or hibiscus flowers.
  • Eye-liner made with cocoa powder, coconut oil or activated charcoal applied with a damp brush.
  • There are also recipes for safe Halloween makeup.

Have fun, stay healthy and beautiful!
